Excel Formatting Assignment Tallest Structure– (IC3 steps 11-1)

Part 1

Open tallest_structures_proj.xls and make the necessary formatting changes.

Formatting Requirements

1)     Save file in your folder – filename is tallest structures.

2)     Select any cell in column D. Go to Edit menu and select Delete. Select the option Entire column and click OK. The column and all its contents are deleted from the worksheet. What was labeled Column E is now labeled Column D.

3)     Click in any cell in row 11. Go to the Insert menu and choose Rows. A new row is inserted above the row you have selected and it becomes Row 11. The existing data shifts down and the row labels are updated to reflect the change.

4)     In the new row, type the following

Canadian National (CN) Tower TV/Tourist tower Toronto, Canada  1,814

5)     Select Row 12 and drag down to include Row 13 in the selection. Both rows should be selected. Go to Insert menu and choose Rows. Two new rows are inserted above the selected rows.

6)     In the new rows, type the following

Ostankino Tower TV/Tourist tower Moscow, Russia 1,772
Oriental Pearl Tower TV tower Shanghai, China 1,535

7)     Click on the label for Row 2. The whole row should be selected. Open the Edit menu and select Delete. Because you selected the entire row before choosing the Delete command the Delete dialog box does not display but the entire row is deleted.

8) Click on Column A to select the entire column. Open the Insert menu and choose Columns. A new column is inserted to the left of what was Column A - which is now column B. The new is column A and is the active column.

9)    Click in A1, then click on Bold. Type Ranking and then press Enter.

10)    Save changes before continuing.

11) Click in E9 replace text with 1,909 and press Enter.

12) Click in C14 Open the Edit menu and choose Delete. The Delete dialog box is displayed. Select
Shift cells left and then click OK. The contents in cells D14 and E14 are shifted one cell to the left.

13)   Notice that the city name is centered instead of left aligned. This is because the cell formats also shifted to the left. Click in cell D14 and click the Align Left button to align the text consistently with the other data in the column.

14)  Press Tab to move to cell E14, type 1,362 and press Enter. Click the Center align.

15)   Click in cell D2 (North Dakota, USA). Click the Copy button and paste in cell D3.

16)   Click in cell C5 (Radio tower) and click Cut. Go to cell C4 and Paste.

17)  Click in cell C7 (TV tower). Position your mouse pointer to the small square in the bottom right corner of C7. This square is called the fill handle. When you point to the fill handle, the pointer changes to a bold plus sign. Drag the fill handle down to C9. The range of cells C7:C9 is selected. Release the mouse button, and the contents of C7 (TV tower) now appear in cells C8 and C9.

18)  Click in C6 and select the fill handle and drag up to select cell C5. Click in cell C2 and fill the contents to cell C3.

19)  Save changes and leave document open. Open tallest_structures2.htm to continue assignment.
